Juan José Castro was born into a musical family in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Both he and his brothers studied music at an early age with Juan José taking violin and piano lessons and subsequently instruction in theory and composition. After completing his studies in Argentina, he left for Europe and studied composition with Vincent d’Indy at in Paris. In the early 1920’s Paris was one of the great artistic capitals of the western world. Some of the most noted composers of the 20th century were in that city for various periods of that time, including Stravinsky, Ravel, Satie, Dukas, Honegger, Milhaud, Copland and Villa-Lobos. …
