Hymn of Jesus Op. 37 (Vocal Score)

Gustav Holst is one of those composers who lived (partly) in the shadow of one huge ‘hit’. Just as Humperdinck with Hänsel und Gretel, or Mascagni with Cavelleria Rusticana, Holst never managed to rid himself of the millstone of The Planets. Yet The Hymn of Jesus was a good attempt. It was written soon after The Planets, in the dying days of WW1. It shows clear influences of the polytonality of Venus, Uranus and Neptune
