Preface

This book is dedicated to pianists in search for new ballet class music materials. The present volume contains music for Barre section with personal compositions and arrangements of famous classical and folk pieces. The person behind the book has almost twenty years of experience in accompanying generations of pre-professional students and professional dancers.

Anatol Ţurcanu,

a pianist and composer with a particular sensitivity for improvisations and music adaptation, has been working with the National School of Ballet ‘Floria Capsali’ and the National Opera of Bucharest as an accompanist for student classes and examinations, company classes and rehearsals. Additionally, Anatol Ţurcanu has been invited to accompany master classes with famous ballet masters guesting at the Bucharest Opera or the National School. The list of ballet master he has collaborated with includes Alina Cojocaru and Johann Kobborg , Renato Zanella, Bella Radchinskaia, Nina Anianasvili, Gilbert Meyer from Paris Opera, Paul Boss, Tom Bosma from Amsterdam Dance Accademy, Frederik Olivieri from Teatro alla Scala di Milano, Sergiu Stefanski, Cristina Hamel, Loretta Alexandrescu, Vladimir Derevianko and many more.
With his impressive career as a specialized pianist for ballet class, Anatol Ţurcanu aims to share his experience with colleagues and future ballet-pianists by publishing his compositions and arrangements that he has used successfully and effectively.

All pieces are edited and some composed by Dan Ţurcanu, his son, a violinist, composer and an enthusiastic accompanist for ballet classes.
