PREFACE
In addition to his works for solo piano and orchestral works primarily intended for the concert hall (including his frequently performed solo concertos), the genre in which Prokofiev enjoyed his greatest success was ballet. Chamber music, songs, choral works and even operas play a less spectacular role. It all began with ’Ala and Lolly’, the Scythian Suite, Op. 20, from 1914, in which Prokofiev revealed the radically bizarre and archaically overwhelming sides of his nature in full bloom for the first time. …
