Vanhal, Johann Baptist – Sextett in G-Dur für Flöte, 2 Hörner und Streichtrio (Set score & parts / New print)

Jan Křtitel Vaňhal came from a humble farming background in the East bohemian village of Nové Nechanice. His parents were sefs of Count Schaffgotsch. Vaňhal showed exceptional talent in playing instruments and singing at a young age, so that the Countess Maria Anna Schaffgotsch von Althann (1702-1771), the wife of his landlord, took him to Vienna at the age of 21 to enable him to continue his musical education. The imperial city of Vienna was the most important musical centre in Europe at this time. Vaňhal’s first teacher there was
Matthäus Schlöger, Imperial Court Keyboard Master. Other influential figures, such as Joseph Haydn and Carl Ditters von Dittersdorf, gave him access to the viennese music scene. Vaňhal soon gained a reputation as a reliable musician and a respected teacher of instrumental and vocal music in aristocratic circles. Among his pupils was Ignaz Pleyel.
