Dedicated to:
F. D. Bailey [Francis Dane “Frank” Bailey, a New York-based friend to whom the composer dedicated works along with “the Rare Americans who encourage the efforts of American composers”]. Also, the composer wrote on the title page of his orchestral manuscript, “These little songs were written in memory of a very talented young American composer who died of sheer discouragement in his native land where the musical efforts of native composers are considered devoid of any value either harmonic or melodic.”

The Crow was premiered by soprano Edwina Swain and pianist R. Douglasin New York City at a Town Hall recital alongside Harry T. Burleigh’s Joshua.

Broadcast premiere:
1951, The whole suite was sung by bass-baritone Diego Ochsenbein and pianist Jacques Horneffer over Swiss radio and taped by the R-TST.
