Rafael D’Haene studied music at the Conservatoire Royal de Musique de Bruxelles (1962-1967), where he studied with Eduardo del Pueyo (piano), Victor Legley (harmony), Jean Louël (counterpoint) and Marcel Quinet (fugue). He then continued his studies in composition with Henri Dutilleux at the École Normale de Musique de Paris (1967-1968) and with Victor Legley at the Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel in Waterloo (1968-1971). From 1974 to 1994, he was affiliated with the Royal Conservatory of Brussels as a teacher of harmony and counterpoint, fugue and analysis. He also took various policy positions and was actively involved in the revision of teaching curricula. D’Haene has participated in several international colloquial events and is a much sought-after jury member at national and international composition competitions and music contests….
