Preface
Hakon Børresen was considered probably the greatest Danish composer: With a height of around two meters, he towered over his contemporaries by often a whole head. While he was initially seen as a great hope for Danish musical art, it was Carl Nielsen’s progressive musical language that quickly overshadowed his works. By the 1920s at the latest, Børresen was regarded as a traditional and conservative figure, whose work increasingly came to be seen as outdated. Perhaps also for this reason, his compositional output decreased. The two scores presented here from the 30s and 40s thus belong to the last works of the musician.
