This cycle of songs by various poets is united by themes of natural elements and their eternity contrasted with human agitation, suffering and mortality. Inner links are very sparingly applied, but it will be observed how the images in the poetry are arranged to lead into one another: waves – ripples – springs; oblivion (the third spring) – Autumn – summons to begone Winter– premonitions of death and what may lie beyond–cosmos.
