EDITOR’S PREFACE

While the tireless and commendable efforts of the International Draeseke Society (IDG, since 1986) have led to increasing recognition of Draeseke’s symphonic works, chamber music, and choral compositions, his songs have remained largely unnoticed. This is likely due, in part, to their limited accessibility and the fact that existing prints are not always free of errors. Fortunately, the board and members of the IDG responded positively to my proposals for a reprint. Special thanks are due to Höflich Verlag for their willingness to publish a critically revised new edition of Draeseke’s complete songs, based on the manuscripts wherever available.

It would bring me great joy if the many months I have spent familiarizing myself with Draeseke’s sometimes challenging handwriting contribute to securing the recognition that Felix Draeseke, the song composer, rightfully deserves. …
